There are many plugins which can be used on your WordPress website. But can you decide the most useful WordPress plugins? Most of the bloggers get confused when they start their blog. It’s because there are many plugins and it’s hard to decide the best plugins for the website.
In this post, I am going to mention some important plugins for WordPress site which should be installed when you start your blog. There are many factors to think about a WordPress blog. You should take care of the spam comments, your comment system, and many other things.

1. Spam Comments Protection Plugin.
When you install WordPress to handle your website then within one day, you would notice the hundreds of spam comments. The no. would increase day by day. Sometimes it’s hard to control the spammers. To get rid of them, you must install Akismet which would help you to save your website.
When you get any spam comment then it would be added to the spam list and you can empty the list once a day. Your website won’t get attacked by those spammers.
2. One of The Security Plugins.
You know that nowadays many websites are getting hacked and it’s important that you secure your website using any of the security plugins. You can use the “All in one security, Bulletproof security, Sucuri, and others.
There are many free plugins on the market and if you can go for the premium plugin then Sucuri or Wordfence would be a better option. It’s important to take care of the WordPress security.
3. Backup Plugin.
It’s important to keep the backup of your website and the database on your computer hard drive. You can use BackupBuddy, BackupWordPress, or any other plugin. Even your security plugins can backup the database of your website.
Though you can backup WordPress website manually using the cPanel but for beginners, it’s good to have any backup plugin. You should keep ready for hard time. There are many web hostings which provide the daily backup option with the web hosting plan.
4. SEO Plugin.
One of the essential plugins for WordPress website is the SEO plugin which will help you to write the SEO friendly article. You can use the “all in one SEO, SEO by Yoast, SEOPressor”. There are many SEO plugins which are free and premium

5. Database Optimization Plugin
When you write the blog posts then in WordPress the posts get saved automatically. When you edit your post again then everything gets stored in the database. Most of the bloggers don’t use any database optimization plugin due to which the database get overflowed.

You may have read about blogging tips that for a blog, it’s important to have the contact us page which can be created using the contact form plugins. There are many contact form plugins including the “Contact Form 7, Ninja forms, WP forms etc.
Try to build a contact page which is user-friendly. Most of the plugins provide the option to generate your own contact form. Make sure that your users can contact you without any difficulty.
9. Social Sharing button Plugin.
If you want to build brand on social media then it’s important to use any of the essential plugins for WordPress plugins which can let your readers share your content. You may place the social sharing buttons under or above the blog posts. We all know the power of social networking sites in today’s era of digitization.
10. Jetpack By WordPress.com.
If you are using the self-hosted version of the WordPress then this is one of the most useful WordPress plugins. It will connect your self-hosted WordPress website to the fully-hosted version. You can connect your website to WordPress.com using Jetpack.

11. WP Edit.
When you start writing your blog post then you may have seen some options in the post editor. WordPress doesn’t provide all the necessary options to craft your blog post perfectly.
It would be great if you use the WP-Edit plugin which would provide some extra edit options in the post editor. You can manage your blog posts properly.

Great list. I think you have covered all. I want to add P3 profiler to use as it tells you which plugins are putting how much load which can be very useful when your site is going down or being slow.

I have checked the P3 profiler and it isn’t that much effective. Though it can let you know the number of plugins which are active. I have scanned for the load but it didn’t show anything.

There is nothing wrong with the plugin. Actually, when you use other plugins along with it then sometimes it may conflict. There are many plugins which can’t be used together.
Maybe there is another plugin which is creating the problem and doesn’t let it work properly. It’s hard to say anything.

You should install a caching plugin for sure. It would enhance the speed of your website. Sometimes a few plugins gather the cache which should be deleted.
The security has the major issue because nowadays many bloggers a re getting hacked.

Imapge optimzation plays an important role in the page loading time. You can install any plugin for that. But it’s better to optimize your image using any other tool. It won’t be good to put the burder of another plugin if you can do that without it.

The main thing is that you should optimize the database. When you write the blog posts then the posts get saved many times. It increases the no. of rows in the database and the size of it.
It’s important to minimize the tables and rows. You can use any plugin. WP-Sweep is also a good plugin.

Hi Ravi. I agree with most of your list. I’m thinking about removing Akismet from my sites because WP All In One Security can block the ability for robots to leave spam, so I get very little spam anymore. I installed WP Super Cache a couple months ago and I am absolutely amazed at how much it has improved the speed of my website. Yoast SEO takes care of the need for an XML sitemap plugin. I think All I One SEO does too.
There are a couple plugins that I’m rather disappointed with. The social sharing plugins that I have found are all way to big for a task that only takes a couple of lines to implement. I have also removed the contact forms from my website. Between my email address, phone number and comment form there are more than enough ways to contact me. A contact form seems redundant.
Speaking of comments, I use CommentLuv. I would never use Facebook comments or Disqus. When I comment on other blogs I like to read through the comments for other bloggers to follow. Disqus and FB comments make that very hard to do because there is no blog link.
It is better to use as few plugin as you need to, so you have to be very discriminating. I have been going through my plugins recently and removing any that aren’t absolutely necessary. It has simplified my blog and improved its speed a lot.

WordPress directory consists of many plugins to use. I agree with you that people shouldn’t use more plugins on their website. It’s good to reduce the number.
If you have an SEO plugin then it would take care of many things. You won’t need to generate the XML with any other plugin. The spam protection would be provided.
But when you run thesis themes then you have to use the XML plugins because you won’t need any SEO plugin.
I prefer to do the things manually without any plugin and social media icons can be added without any plugin.

Hi Ravi,
When I read and shared your recent post, I decided to check on the one before the first.
You provided a great collection of the most essential WordPress plugins. In fact, I’m currently using about 8 of the plugins on your list. For backup I’m using UpdraftPlus, this plugin is incredibly.
It lets you backup you site either manually or automatically. I’m enjoying.
However, the one plugin I’ll like to try is the WP-Edit plug. Never heard of it until now.
